Passport expiring, renewal of study permit

Hello all.

It might be too early to delve into this issue but the Canadian Immigration works at a snail's pace hence the choice to do so.

I am an Indian passport holder. I am currently studying at a Canadian university. My passport is set to expire in March 2017. The temporary resident visa has been issued till Feb 2017. And the study permit with the passport number shows validity till Nov 2017.

1. When can I begin renewal of my passport so that I can reapply for TRV and get the new one before the present one expires?
2. Since the present study permit carries the old passport number, how does this resolve when I get a new passport(i.e. renewed one)? Do I have to apply for a new study permit?

I would be grateful if I can get some advice in the above matters.

1. Within the last one year of passport validity.
2. You continue to use valid SP with an expired passport. Though its very rare for visa to be issued beyond PP validity.
3. When you show both PP at POE, the IO will update your UCI information on the system.
