Passport expired !!

Hello All Members,

I am filling up application of citizenship for my minor kid. We noticed that his passport had expired last year in august. Do we need an current (valid) passport for citizenship application or his original passport will do?
All other family members have current (valid) passports....
Looking for your input here

The question i raised is based on Question 14 a in citizenship application where you have to list passports you hold and explain gap between passports....

Validity of the Passport is not mandatory requirement while applying citizenship .
Yous need to provide a reason for the gap.
In my case i wrote ( Since we do not have any plan for travel outside the country in the near future that is the reason PP was not renewed.
