Passport Change of address ?

Hello,

1. My passport was issued in Bangalore 9 years ago. I reside in Chennai now for the past 4 years. I would like to get the change of address in the passport. Can someone tell me if the passport number would remain same, as I understand from passport office website, for change of addrress, they are issuing new booklet. My query is, will the new booklet issued by the chennai RPO have the same PP number as the original PP office in Bangalore ( and will they issue me a new one as there is only 1 yr remaining on PP, will it have a new number or old number ) ?

2. Also, if I report my passport lost and get a replacement in Chennai ( original issued in Bangalore ) , will the PP numbers be the same.

I would be glad if PP numbers would be same as I would not have to wait further to shoot of the initial application

As you have ONE year for the expiry of your current passport, you can apply for a new pasport and you can give your new address for that passport. No need to apply for address change now and later to apply for a renewed pasport. This will also save you the fees.

Thanks, in that case should I also send the copies of old expired PP ( does not say so in check list, nor ask about old passports ) or is it enough if I just have to send the re-issued with change of address PP ?

I think I will have to wait, till I get a re-issued passport with change of address before sending the form to CIO , as the PP numbewrs will be different.

So, what I will do is, request a re-issue inlieu of 1 yr validity remaining on passport and quote my new/current address on the form. Right ?

Hi,

Indian passports can be renewed within a year of its expiry.
So you should apply for a renewal of your passport.
You don't have to ask for a new passport only for address change purpose.The passport office will renew it for 10 years with new adress .
Submit the copy of new passport to CIC. No need to submit the old one's copy again.
