Hi Everyone!

This is my first post as I am new to this process and this forum.

I am Canadian (by birth) and I am sponsoring my husband so that we can move to Canada. We currently live in the USA.

Here are my questions: (to start....lol)

1) I see so many posts referring to a "passport." I do not have a Canadian passport. I have only my original Canadian birth certificate, Social Insurance card, expired OHIP card and driver's license. So, is the passport something that will be issued as part of the sponsorship process to my husband? (all my American cards are current!)

I have never had a Canadian passport and when crossing the border into Canada I have never needed one.

2) How does someone enter their information about paperwork status in this forum. I see the dates things were submitted etc, but am not sure how to enter my dates (when I have dates to enter).

3) I plan on paying all fees and submitting all paperwork including medical receipt, FBI clearance with the original application. How come so many people state dates of Meds Requested which appear to be different from the original application date? I thought everything was supposed to be submitted together? Does anyone know how long it takes for the medical information to reach Canada from the medical examiner in the USA? Is this what the Meds Received date means?

???

Thanks for your help. I am sure I will have loads of questions over the next while as we compile this massive document packet for submission.

1) No, you have to apply separately
2) When you logged in, click "Profile" and then under "Modify Profile" select "Forum Profile Information" . You will be prompted to a webpage so that can type your Personalized picture, paperwork status and so on.
3) Some people have been requested with further medical examination. Hope others will answer for rest of the question.

thanks.

Do I need a Canadian passport as part of the sponsorship process, or to enter into Canada? Nobody has ever told me that I need one for crossing into Canada. Like I said, I have my Canadian birth certificate, and other forms of ID.

I have dual citizenship so in the past I have used my US Passport for crossing into Canada. However, as a returning Canadian citizen I was planning on just using my Canadian birth certificate and current photo IDs.

Help???

:)

No, you don't need Canadian passport to enter Canada. Any visa-exempted will do. For sponsorship, you can provide a copy of your Canadian birth certificate. See the checklist for details:
