When I worked overseas, a lot of time was spent with our co-workers sitting around and thinking of our homes. One of the best subjects of conversation was "what is the first thing you will eat when you get home." We thought the food was so terrible where we were working. It was always a great conversation starter because we were made up of over 100 different nationalities. Usually people would go into detail about what they would ask their mums to cook for them on their first night home.. it was really interesting. Unfortunately my mum is not a great cook! So I would always be jealous of the others who could look forward to their Mum's cooking.

What will you guys cook for your partners when they get to Canada? What places will you show them? We have a list, about 4 years old, of what he will cook for me when he gets here.

I can't wait to introduce my husband to all sorts of food....especially beef dishes....and he can't wait to cook the cuban food here for my family....and they are looking forward to it as well....my husbands first dinner in Canada will either be......bbq'd steak, ceaser salad and baked potatoe....or if he arrives in the dead of winter....roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy and turnip.....

For sponsor, exercise, exercise, exercise. Makes everything a little bit better. And work, work, work, so that when you visit your spouse, you can make it like heaven and the memories will stay.

For spouse, exercise and whatever education you can help add to her resume.(better english, computer..)

Ohh the foods haha. The first time my husband visited, he tried poutine and LOVES it! I haven't visited his state yet (TN) but his mom is dang determined to get me to try grits and something else I forget the name of haha.

LOL parker, I tried grits when I visited my hubby in GA.. they were ok, ate em with eggs and bacon (to hide the taste) lol. but nah weren't too bad actually. I spent last thanksgiving there with him and his family and it was such a wonderful experience, southern style thanksgiving.. somewhat different than here, ate some of the similar foods but alot was different and tasted great. I love donair pizza and my hubby said "what is that" so next time he comes home, which will hopefully be soon and his landing also, he is gonna try some. hehe

haha i love this post!!.
bbq steak, cesar salad and baked potatoe would be the perfect first meal!!.
my spouse lived in canada with me before we applied outland. and now we are in mexico waiting and he misses the food in canada sooooo much! pretty much anything bbq is nothing compared to in canada.
your husband is going to love it! :D

My wife never visited outside China, so there is a lot of food that she does not know. Problem is that I love chinese food. Haha but she will certainly enjoy the iranian and german foods my mom prepares.
One place we have talked about since day one is Niagara Falls and it is kind of a special place we want to visit first to celebrate her landing. Canada has so many wonderful places to visit so there will be lots of traveling.
What we do during the wait? I work like crazy and have started some abs exercise, funny as I have physical work during working hours. My wife speaks very good english but she is thinking she needs improvement and listens to english news and reads books. She was shocked to hear that there are differences between british, american and canadian english.
O, one thing we both learn is to ignore the wait, even if we have our weak days and think ahead to better times.

When he arrives we want to have a big party to celebrate his arrival with extended family - and we will cook all sorts of Filipino dishes for them. We always plan what dishes we will serve. I hope they like the food!

To pass the time. ive gotten really good at online tetris!! haha
and hanging out with our dog.
my birthday is coming soon so were gunna sneak off to the beach (Veracruz) for 4 days to take our mind off the waiting process ;D

oooooh guys this subject is really nice; makes me homesick, happy and sad; for us, he was never in Canada either; although he travelled in so many places, we never managed to have a successful visa application there ::) well for us it all depends when we arrive; if it's in winter we'll definately go to cabane a sucre and enjoy the real maple sirup in the snow ;D ;D and all the foods; there r some amazing poutine places in Montreal so that's also on the list; if it's in the summer, besides all the fun in Montreal, i want to take him to Ottawa on Canada Day, to Toronto to visit our friends and to Niagara Falls (and all the area around it - the village, the wineries) cuz that's the top place for all new-comers hihihi

other places we can drive on long weekends (and i recommend for all) Quebec City, Gaspesie, Mont-Tremblant, Algonquin; i wish we visit all Canada actually, i didn't see any either, just a little in Qc and On - first the East coast, at the Atlantic; then the West coast - so all ur suggestions i'll try to remember them :)

then once he gets the citizenship we can start visiting the States (i only went to New York), take all inclusive to Carribeans (Cuba is lovely!!!!), .... what great times will b, this process will b just a memory :)

and of course all my friends will finally meet him, i'll take him to all my favourite restaurants and places

Hi guys....I am Canadian (green card holder) living in Tennessee with my husband. There is alot of great food here but becareful Parker with what they try to feed you. There are some pretty strange things....Do they want you to try "Chitlings"?
My husband went to Canada for the first time this year..he loved the poutine as well. So after going through the hassle of getting my green card here, he wants to retire to Canada. Wont be for a couple of years at least but I am reading this forum so I will be well prepared. I finally got a job here as well. I work for a lawyer processing immigration paperwork. HMMMM

Well right now my wife and I are in the "wait before the wait" as the lawyer is doing a last review to make sure everything is filled out properly, signed, etc before submitting it.

We're both spending lots of time working, she has two jobs and it's so busy where I work I'm averaging 50+ hours a week. Keeps us both busy and means we'll be in good financial shape when I move :)

Apart from that I spend time at the gym and she hangs out with her friends, and we both watch lots of movies.

We also try to plan what we want to do on our next visit and after I move, but with no way to be sure when they'll be it's kind of hard to do more than make vague plans.
