Hello,

I am a U.S. citizen applying for permanent residence under the Federal Skilled Worker Program / Express Entry. I am only 26 years old, so I need to supply a history of everything since my 18th birthday.

I'm sort of worried because I had a part-time seasonal dish-washing job as a teenager, and I turned 18 while working there. I'm really confused as to what I should do.

Should this job even be included in my work history? I only worked as a dishwasher at this job. If I must include this job, is it really necessary for me to include a letter of reference, even though this job has nothing to do with my career as a software developer? I tried contacting this employer, and they are having a really hard time putting together the exact dates that I worked there, much less a letter of reference. I've been trying for the last two weeks and I'm unable to get any detailed information from them, other than my official date of hire.

For the "Employment Records" section of my document checklist, where they want my letter of reference for that job, could I just attach my W-2s for the years that I was there? Would they accept my situation if I outlined it in a Letter of Explanation? I mean, I held this job while in high school; it isn't a career job. I'm immigrating as a software developer, not a dishwasher. So this job really shouldn't matter to CIC, right?

Am I correct in assuming I should just be able to include this job in my "Personal History" section, and just leave it out of work history, since it doesn't matter to my career? I'm not even sure how many hours I worked there every week....most weeks it was less than 16 hours.
