Hi ,

I want to sponsor my parents for Jan 2017 intake.

I read the following information while filling out 'Generic Application Form for Canada (IMM 0008)' for my father.

"You must list all family members in your application for permanent residence, whether they are accompanying you to Canada or not. You must also provide details on family members whose location is unknown (including those missing or presumed dead). If you don’t, you will not be able to sponsor family members at a later date if they are not listed on your application."

Now I am not sure If I included my parents as dependents in my PR application (6 years back). I have read on forums that family members means - spouse/children so parents are not dependents. Also the the values of 'Relationship to Principal applicant' I do not see a 'parents' value.

So would I be ok to submit the sponsorship application or would I be rejected as I did not include parents as my dependents in my PR application ?

Note - they were included as family members in 'Additional Family Information' I submitted for my PR application..

Parents are classified as dependents for immigration purposes. So you would not have listed them as such in your immigration application. You are fine.

Scylla meant to say "Parents are NOT classified as dependents..." but has not yet had enough coffee :).
