Parents sponsorship Canada - time taken to send acknowledment letters

I submitted my parents sponsorship form last year 2011 in Aug in CANADA but still have not received the acknowledgment letter with the file number.

CIC website says processing application received on April 2011 for more than a year now. Why have they not updated or are they not issuing any acknowledgement letters?

any feedback?
