Hi There,

My parents aged (father 50+, mother 45+) are thinking of applying for the Express entry. I have calculated the points and they are coning to around 388. Here is the details:

Education: Both have masters degrees
Experience: Father has 30+ job experience in Safety health environment sector, 15+ Managerial (outside Canada), Mother (housewife)
English: Both have ielts 7.5
Funds: Can show around $1M
Job offer in Canada: None. However, they are willing to invest in properties (houses)
Relatives in Canada: Father has a brother (PR) and mother has her mother & brother as Canadian Citizen

About myself: Canadian graduate and will have a job soon.

My question is if they apply will they be considered and get the PR? Any other guidelines. Looking forward for your replies.

This is a tricky one. From what you have said your Father and Mother as C-Applicants appear to meet the FSW Program. The problem is getting past the CRS points threshold. It is not likely to ever come to 388 in my opinion.

I can suggest one of 2 things which may or may not be applicable:

1) Try and increase language scores to see if they can get CRS of at least 400 to see if they can qualify for OINP.

2) Can your parents read, write, and speak French? If they can doing the French Exam would help them also to boost CRS points.

Also, is 388 inclusive of including the Master Degrees and getting maximum points for them?

388 points isn't enough to be selected. They need at least 400 points to be considered under the Ontario provincial program. They should be aiming for 450+ if they want to be selected under Express Entry / Federal Skilled Worker.

FYI - none of the above things will increase their points and won't make a difference in the application process.

Hi, Thanks for your replies.

1.Increasing English scores: not an option
2.388 is inclusive of masters
3.French: read it in an english manner sure, speak no, listening no,writing no

I guess there are two options left: 1: my father gets a job offer adding 600 points, 2: i sponsor them after i get my PR?

Any more ways i can help them come over.

Yes - #1 is an option.

Are you in Canada on a student visa or do you already have PR? Either way, you are probably still years away from being able to submit an application to sponsor them and then several more years on top of that before their application is actually processed.

Hi. Thanks.

I am a pgwp holder looking for jobs. Hopefully will be employed soon. By my understanding after one year i can apply for PR and after getting it i can sponsor my parent for supervisa. After the supervisa i can sponsor them and when there file gets approved they will get the PR but that can take any number of years. I hope i am right?

Another option i am thinking is to work overseas and then apply in express entry program. Would this be wise? Heard this is faster.

One year of work experience will qualify you for the FSW program under Express Entry. One year of work experience in Canada will qualify you for either FSW or CEC. It's really up to you what you do.

Yes - technically your parent can apply to come on a super visa once you have PR - but practically it's not that simple. First of all, there's no guarantee they will be approved. Secondly, they most likely won't be able to live here non stop until they have PR. Also, while they are there, they won't be able to work and wont' qualify for health care. So you will have to support them fully. As for applying for PR, best case scenario, you are probably five years away from sponsoring them for PR - it will then take another 4+ years for the application to be processed. So best case scenario, you're looking at 10 years minimum from now before your parents have PR based on your sponsorship.
