I'm in the process of applying for a TRV for my father.

I already made a letter of invitation and will be paying for all the expenses of the trip (airfare, travel insurance, accommodation, etc.). The plan visit is for 15 days, and I have over 25K in my account for the past 6 months (double that for the past 3-4 months).

He is retired and lives in a poor country, so he doesn't have any funds for the trip. He currently lives with my brother and his family, and receive a modest pension from the government.

I want to know if this will present any issues with the application, or is the fact that I have enough funds to cover his trip enough?

This is the information in the application:

Upload proof of financial support

If you won’t be getting financial support from someone during your stay in Canada, show that you can support yourself, while in Canada by providing 1 or more of the following pieces of evidence:

  • bank statements for the past 4 months, showing an amount large enough to cover all reasonable expenses while in Canada
  • a certified cheque, bank draft or money order, showing an amount large enough to cover all reasonable expenses while in Canada
  • written statements that a processing officer will be able to confirm

If you will depend on someone financially during your stay in Canada provide a letter or statement from the person that you will depend on while in Canada. The letter or statement must include the amount of money this person will be providing, plus proof that this person has sufficient funds. This can be 1 or more of the following:
  • proof of a Canadian bank account in the name of the person providing you with money if funds have been transferred to Canada
  • proof of a student or education loan from a financial institution
  • bank statements for the past 4 months
  • a bank draft in convertible currency
  • proof of payment of tuition and accommodation fees
  • a letter from the person or institution providing you with money
  • proof of funding paid from within Canada, if you have a scholarship or are in a Canadian-funded educational program

The person must also provide evidence of their relationship with you. Depending on the type of relationship, this could mean a copy of a marriage certificate, phone records, birth registration, family documents or photos.

Him not showing any funds will be an issue. He needs to show some of his own funds unless applying for a supervisa. Once you say he cannot afford it and you will be covering all expenses then IRCC is concerned that he will not leave. He needs to show cash in the bank, strong travel history and ties to return. Family ties are spouse and children under 22. Economic ties are business, job letter with approved leave, income property.

Thanks for your answer.

Why does ircc says this if him not having money is an issue?:

IRCC states that but expects an applicant to show they can afford it. Most refusals are due to insufficient funds. Provide all documentation that you can afford his visit. If PR then consider supervisa if refused for insufficient funds.
