I am a family of 4. myself,my wife and our two kids. I am willing to sponsor my mom from back-home in the category of family class sponsorship.
Now the financial evaluation for parents form IMM5768 requires my income for 2014, 2013 and 2012. I made 80,000 for 2014, 85,000 for 2013 and 80,000 for 2012. which satisfies the three year minimum income requirement with respect to family of 5. it is now 5 since my mom will be the fifth member of the family. however my income has decreased to around 40,000 cdn for the year of 2015 due to the current economic conditions in Alberta Canada as I lost my job due to the downturn in the oil and gas industry in March 2015. I am currently working in a different field as a self employed

my question is that is it worth it to sponsor my mom since at the moment the immigration only asks for the incomes of 2014, 2013 and 2012 which I already qualify for the minimum necessary income requirement for the family of five. Eventhough I was family of 2 in 2012, 2013 and 2014 as it was only me and my son from previous relation. I got married to my current wife in early 2015 and blessed with a daughter in october 2015. so the number of family increased from 2 to 4 in 2015. Please guide me as I have filled out all the forms to sponsor my mom and ready to mail them in January 2016 however, not sure if due to my less income situation in 2015 will my application is going to be refused.
I would really appreciate some guidance on that

thank you

Hi, I am no expert but based on my research, here is what I think. You are in a terrible position and I can sympathize with you. First of all, it does not matter when your family size changed. If at the time of applying for your sponsorship application you have 5 family members, they count the income for past years based on 5 family members. If you do not apply now, you will not have a chance to apply for the next 3 years anyway. That should be reason enough to apply. CIC will decide based on your application whether you are eligible or not. To be honest, from what I heard CIC work closely with CRA and ca access the information at any time. Yes, it is true that your income going down in 2015 could definitely hinder your application but I called CIC a few months ago and the agent says at any time when your income is reassessed, the primary reason is to ensure you or any of your family member are not receiving social assistance. If they ask you for update on your income lets say a year from now. You can submit updated income with an explanation and hope for the best. I would also suggest ensuring you get a higher paying job in 2016 ( I know I am stating the obvious here). You can also ask your wife to co sponsor if she works. Hope this helps.

Sponsors are required to meet LICO throughout the entire process.

Do I have to maintain a minimum income during the processing of the application?

Your Minimum Necessary Income must meet or exceed the Federal Income Table for Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship above on the date on which the sponsorship application is signed until the day your family members are permanent residents.

Income may be reassessed at any time during processing if new information indicates that you may no longer meet the minimum income requirements or if more than 12 months have passed between the dates on which we receive your application and when processing of the application begins.
