Hi,
I would like to sponsor my parents and does not meet the minimum income requirement for 1 (2019) out of three years since I went on mat leave. Can I get my husband as a co-signer even though he has filled takes with CRA for only one year (2019) as he moved from USA in April 2019.? Or he should also show 3 years of NOA?

Mat leave income is counted as regular income as its considered special income (unlike EI Income). If 2019 income is the only one that is insufficient (out of 3 ) you can add your spouse income despite he only filed tax that year ( No need to show 3 years as your only income is only self sufficient)

Thank you! If I apply for the program in 2020.. what are the years should I show? 2020,2019 & 2018? Or do I have to go back to 2017?

In a normal situation it should have been year 2016, 2017, and 2018 because these are the years we would have already completed tax to show income. if there was No covid related delay on program opening we would not have filed 2019 taxes as this program would have been available/open in early January. However due to covid delay we already completed 2019 taxes by now and 2019 NOA is available so we can go for 2017/2018 and 2019 NOA's for income . 2020 NOA is not completed yet as the year is still not complete 2020 taxes are done in 2021. This is my understanding. I am however a bit confused because Immigration canada news says
IRCC is also introducing a temporary public policy that will reduce the income requirement for the 2020 tax year to the minimum necessary income, rather than the minimum necessary income plus 30 per cent. This is to accommodate those who have been negatively affected financially by the coronavirus pandemic.

So it appears Immigration canada is accepting 2020 income. But how are we to show 2020 income because we haven't completed 2020 taxes yet? I also need to find out if 2020 income can be counted. please let me know if you find anything.

My understanding is that Nov 03rd the program will close and a month to may be send the invitation out so by then it will be end of 2020. Then we will have 60days to apply so it will be what feb 2020 by then we should have all our T4s so I am assuming we can use that to support the documentation I guess.

Thank you for your input. I hope that be the case. In my situation due to new born in the house this year (total 6 family member) my 2017 income is not sufficient however 2018/2019 income is sufficient and i can only be eligible if 2020 income could be counted. Fingers crossed and hope they are okay with T4's as i have not checked the application requirements for income docs. Thank you!

Similar situation here. My income is not sufficient for 2017 too! Let’s hope the best for both of us and that we get to join with our parents. Keep in touch if you find anything out. Thanks
