OWP to Closed Work Permit

Hi all, sorry if this is duplicate, I couldn't find a good answer.

My wife has a study permit and I have open work permit. I was wondering how difficult is for the employer to sponsor my Visa? I was thinking if I get a closed Work Permit, my wife could stop studying and then we won't need to spend more money in her college, which is very expensive.

Will the employer need to get LMIA approved even if I am already working for the company as a OWP employee?

Thank you

Yes - your employer needs to obtain an approved LMIA in order for you to switch to a closed work permit. Generally speaking it's quite difficult to obtain an approved LMIA. To apply for the LMIA, your employer will need to start by advertising the role for at least a month to prove no Canadian could be found for the position. Make sure your employer follows the LMIA advertising requirements and that you are being paid at least the median income for your occupation.

Thanks scylla,

I was wondering if they could justify that I'm already working and I know inside business.

Thanks a lot!

No - unfortunately it doesn't work that way. An approved LMIA is needed.
