Does IRCC process OWP apps the same as they treat OWP + PR? Like does the OWP get put in the pile of other OWP received with PRs? Or will sending the OWP separately default you to at LEAST 4 months.

I'm curious if the timeline for this method of submission is similar to it being submitted with a PR app or as a normal OWP for 4-5 months?

PR applicants are receiving OWP approval around 3.5 months and even earlier for January applicants.

This is a free forum, you only just posted this question - need to be a bit more patient for responses.

There is no set timeline for processing PR OWPs. It's simply been an average of 3-5 months (although generally closer to 3-4). I believe before they changed the process you actually would not get OWP until AIP.

The processing office processes other types of work permits, not just PR OWPs. Whether they separate them out or not I don't know, that would be an internal process I imagine there's not much insight into unless you work there or it's been confirmed elsewhere.

I understand it's free. It's not the lack of patience but when a post goes a few pages down it will get lost forever!

Thanks for your comment. They must be treated differently because you name the department on the package you mail out. For OWPs you send to "Work permits for spouses" department opposed to "new work permits" but I'll try to contact them over the phone for their opinion.

Contact them for their opinion on what? The processing office deals with different kinds of work permits. Perhaps they separate them out by stream (i.e., all PR OWPs go in this batch/this group of officers, etc) but I'm not sure why that matters or is relevant?

Editing to add that the PR OWP program is a pilot and is not a permanent program. The PR OWP processing times are tied to that pilot.

Are you asking because you applied on x date and haven't received your OWP?

Pardon, contact an IRCC agent (yes I know they are not always right) to hear their side of it.

I am agreeing with you.

I like to hear from all sides.

Im only asking because everyone has different timelines for OWP. The helpline says "if we have received your application after November 25th, we have not started processing your application". Obviously this is for general work permits because december and january applicants are receiving approval at the moment.

Im asking because I know someone who applied for the OWP 1.5 months after sending their inland PR app.

Simple question that I know "no one knows, every case is different".

Comment to your edit: okay by saying that, an OWP app sent separately but before AIP will be treated and put in Queue with other OWP apps, even the ones that came with a PR app.

I know someone who sent their OWP 1.5 months after their PR because they were waiting for status restoration. And I want to know for myself as well. I'm sure it goes in "regular OWP pile" or "sponsorship OWP pile". There is a big difference in processing times

Right, and that's always the way it is. Of course you are free to call but I would caution you to take it with a grain of salt given the inconsistent information given out by the call centre agents (who do not process any apps).

The issue your facing as I'm sure you've heard is exactly why so many US applicants apply outland. In some cases outland US apps are processed in the same amount of time as the OWP (Assuming you're American given your avatar)

Unfortunately as you've said - there's always going to be cases where people apply after you (for OWP or PR) and hear before you.

OWPs were consistently processed at 3-4 months. Recently, in the last 6 ish months or so (roughly) that jumped to 4-5 months, but to your point it seems to be reducing now. There is so set timeline for spousal OWPs but as I've said it has remained relatively consistent (which would support the theory they are processed in their own stream)

Thank you. Is my thought process logical?

Person A had PR + OWP apps received January 31st. Person B applied for PR in December. Person B then had an OWP received the same day as Person A's PR + OWP.

In theory, both of their OWP would be in the same pile(spousal sponsorship stream) and could even be picked up one after the other. So they would generally have a similar processing time as they're treated the same.

I am sure it varies a bit by who is looking at the app and how fast they process it.

Also were you saying even any other stream of OWP was getting processed 3-4months or more towards sponsorship streamed apps.

Also by now I'm probably better off waiting for inland app? No point in changing everything as by then could be longer

I think the logic makes sense, but I can't confirm if that's how it works - I don't work for IRCC.

I have always been of the mind that delays are simply incurred by officer efficiency and workload.

3-4 months for spousal.

If you wanted to change your app you would need to withdraw and start all over to switch to outland, if that's what you mean.

"3-4 month for spousal " I hope* that's what we fall into. I'll let you know what happens so you can pass on the knowledge! Thank you.
And yes no point in canceling my inland PR right now and losing money
