Hi Folks,

It would be very helpful if you could give any information and suggestion regarding my following question.

I have applied for in-land spousal sponsorship application in Aug 17, 2017 (application received by IRCC). I have submitted Schedule A background/Declaration on Oct 07, 17. Since then I did not receive any update.

I did not apply for OWP as I have study permit already and have on-campus job. But now I want to explore job opportunities off-campus and thinking of applying for work permit. However, I did not find CIC checklist or information page or any thread related to it. Does anyone know how to do it?

Thanks!
Hasan

Have you have AIP (approval in principal) yet? You need to wait for that if you want to submit OWP application and your pr app is already in. (editted to say this is incorrect...see post from KBH below)

When does your study permit expire?

OWP processing will likely take 3-4 months from submission.

Keep in mind the OWP and study permit are not necessarily compatible. Your study permit has certain limitations for working that are not overrided by the OWP. So if, for example, you were to get the OWP and start working 40 hours a week, you would be in violation of the terms of your study permit.

Here is the page on CIC with information about the OWP: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=1163&top=17

Nope, as long as you are in status, you can apply for the OWP at any time during your PR app processing. :) You only need to wait for AIP if you are not currently in status. See the link I posted above.
