to get an idea of what to expect as a us applicant, check out the ottawa spreadsheet (Which is where us applications are processed), which is the blue link in my signature below. most applicants have seen approval in 5-6 months, though Ottawa seems to be slowing down to more of a 7-8 month approval time since the holidays.

as scylla said, the processing time listed online are not true averages, and they certainly don't reflect what applicants are experiencing TODAY. IF an interviw is called (Which is a very slim chance), it will be held in LA. There is no option for NY interviews. Those with interviews have seen a processing time of 12-16 months.

RH? There were two options when we mailed our forms back in Sept and they were freshly updated forms. You could choose NY or LA, we chose NY as we are on the east coast here in Moncton NB... Has this changed now? Thanks!

yes, everyone fills out that form. i don't understand why it's even in there. there are no reports of interviews in ny, only in la. people aren't even given a choice. i don't even think they process that type of application there anymore.

Man that is a bummer :o We thought that we'd be going to NY if an interview is called as that is the option we checked :-\

there is a very low risk of getting an interview. if your application shows a valid relationship, you don't have some sort of dependant or criminal issue, you most likely will be exempt from an interview. most us applicants are.

It's just all the unknowns all the time :'( My wife and I have an age difference that we hope does not make us have red flags and also my wife was hospitalized for depression and anxiety before in her past. We are both so scared that the life we have together could be taken away somehow..

As mentioned in the past, US applicants get a lot of slack. You would need a massive age difference to raise any concern (especially if the male is older than the female). For example, several people have gotten approved with a 20 year difference without any issue at all.

Also being hospitalized for depression/anxiety is not an issue at all. It will have no impact.

If those two thing are all the concerns you have, then you are in good shape.

I'm 33 and my husband is 46 so our age gap isn't quite yours but close. I received my PR no problem, no interview.

Thank you both for the reassurance 8) And it's good to know that some others didn't get flagged for having a not so common age gap etc.
