Hello Everyone,

Currently the sponsorship applications take about a year. My spouse wants to come and stay with me for a couple of months prior to the approval. Once her application gets approved, can she convert her temporary status to PR without going through border?

Some ppl also mentioned that you can apply for work permit while your outland sponsorship PR is being processed, can anyone confirm if that is true? Much appreciated!!!

Yes, and yes. The 'landing' to become a PR is done online for those in Canada.

Thank you so much for the reply!!! I still couldn't find anything regarding work permit application for outland PR sponsorship, IRCC website mentioned that anyone with a temporary resident status can apply for work permit. What if my spouse never been here before, and i get her a visitor visa after AOR so she can visit. Does this mean she will have a temporary resident status and qualify for work permit app?

I am totally ok with this route, but still curious to know if there is a way to apply for work permit outside Canada while being sponsored. Thanks again!

Someone with a spousal app in process and the principal applicant is IN CANADA can apply. In other words, they get the TRV first, travel to Canada, and then applies (once the AOR has been received).

You need to check your internet, this is the first result I got when I searched just now.
