Dear Immigration Advisors and Consultants,

I am a Canadian by birth (3rd generation), and recently sponsored my wife to come Brazil to Canada. Our application is strong, running over 2.5 years of long distance, many memories and proof. We feel we have a great chance at receiving approval.

Required Advice:

We recently bought a one way ticket for her to travel back with me to Canada, where we would like to enter Canada together. While my wife has large financial ties back to Brazil, we would like to know the consequences of remaining together inside Canada while her PR hopefully clears Outland in brazil. The idea is, spend some time together in brazil and have her fly back with me on a one way ticket to Vancouver, where she will remain until her PR clears. During this time, we will update both our addresses on file online at the CIC website. Once her PR clears, we want to have it mailed to our updated address, obtain it and leave canada across the border to the USA. By doing do we hope to re-enter Canada and "activate" her PR from border crossing.

Can you please give us insight to prove our plan won't work or it will? Can the Multiple tourist visa play a part in this?

Thank you,

Entry into Canada is never guaranteed, but the MEV sounds good. Yes, you can 'flag-pole' at the nearest US border to activate PR when the time comes, no problem.

Thanks for replying,

I'm truly worried about it for sure. Buying a one way ticket into Canada will only prompt questions, and i can't see how telling boarder control that we are close to being approved and would like to await official documentation while inside Canada will make them happy.

Buying a return flight and then missing the return flight would be like lying as well, really a bad situation.

It's nice to know about flag-poling though, that our thought process is recognized and people have done it before. Its just a matter of doing it truthfully and avoiding an airline company sabotage by denying her entry to Canada because of the one way ticket.

Cheers,

You will need to send her passport to Brazil and receive it back though, because Brazil is not visa-exempt.

Buy a return ticket with a insurance, and cancel the return ticket ( or keep it for later for a vacation) once you get the PR.

Good luck,

Also, apply a Health card for her if your province of residence allows it. Some Western provinces do accept spouse on visitor visa w/ Spouse Sponsorship in progress to have Health card.
Add her to your benefit plan too if you have one at work.
