Hi,

My partner is here on a study permit which is now out of status and we have recently received the AOR

Is it possible to get OWP or change to Visitor?
Or would we have to restore the study permit?

When did he stop studying and when did his study permit expire?

No, he is not currently still in school.

Don't remember exactly when he stopped studying but it was definitely a couple months before the permit expired which was on July 30th.

So chances are that he can still restore his status. I would recommend submitting a restoration application asap to restore his status to visitor.

By restoring his status to visitor, do you mean to change status from student to visitor?

He is not a student anymore. If he finished his studies, he can apply for a PGWP. if he still wants to continue with school, he can apply for another study permit.
However, if he just wants to wait for his pr application and be able to stay in Canada, he should apply for a Canadian Visitor visa.
