Out of canada Driving License but abstract is more than 6 months.

Hi all,

I want to apply for a G driving license in Toronto,I have driving experience of more than 10 years all in UAE, i brought my original D/L and the driving authentication paper from UAE traffic department and attested from Canadian embassy and foriegn ministry of UAE ,but the problem isthat the authentication document issue date is more than 6 months old ,however the attestation stamp of the Candaina embassy is a month ago read so would the MTO accept this authentication paper as proof of experienced driver to go directly the G test road.

another question is if I pass the knowledge test and the officer rejects the authentication paper ,as its older than 6 month,will they give me time to bring another authentication document which might take a month to bring ,will the system request me to take G1 road tests exam dates or i can hold up on the knowledge test paper and bring a new authentication paper then go back to MTO to register again and book G road test.

If they reject the abstract, you may self-declare up to 1 year driving experience which means that worst case scenario, you can take the G1 road test and get a G2 license.

i am still confused please walk me through the process,

1- do the vision test
2-do the knowledge test:

A- if I pass the knowledge test will they give me G1 license or I should do a G1 road test first to get a G1 license.
B- after passing the Knowledge test ,and give them my previous D/L abstract and they reject it,can I ask for some time to get a new copy of the absract or once the application is open and I pass the knowledge test i have to complete the process and as you said claim a one year experience.?

I read somewhere that the vision and knoweldge tests are valid for a year i guess so if i just do those 2 tests without taking risk of claiming the above 2 years experience will the drive test center give me the result paper for the knowledge so when I bring my new absrtract i can go and claim to do the G2 road test

Go to the drivers license center and discuss your options with them. If they refuse your abstract as too old and you take the option of self declaring 12 months experience so you can get a G2 license, I do not know if you can show up with a new abstract later and get the G license without doing your time in the system.

The way the system works is that G1 is a learners license and only gives you the right to drive with another licensed person at your side. No road test is required to get a G1 license. It is meant for a novice to practice their driving. Only the knowledge and vision tests are needed for that.

A novice would have to wait 12 months with a G1 license before they can take the G1 road test in order to get a G2 license. These 12 months can be shortened to 8 if they take an approved driving course.

A G2 license is a probationary license. You can drive alone but some restrictions apply such as zero alcohol level allowed and you would lose your license at half the demerit points of a normal license. After 12 months, you can attempt the G2 road test to get a full license.

unfortunately my husband has the same issue and more worse his driving license from Saudi had the wrong date of his birthday so they didn't accept both that paper because it has been more than 6 month and the driving license because it has a wrong date of his birthday
