I think putting together Ikea furniture is a lot harder.
haha, if only it was that easy. thanks.

yes, it is quite pricey to go with an immigration consultant to deal with the application but i will go through all the forms to see if i can handle it. i never was good at filling out forms. thanks to those who offered to help me out if i have any questions about my application....you may regret it cause i am usually over head with these things. :)

$10k out the window
dnguy014, OUCH! i hope there's a way to get some of that money back.

i'm going through the forms now and i'm confused. so, i am the sponsor and my wife is the principle applicant? (i just got married 2 weeks ago in vietnam and now back in canada) there are no children or dependents.

so if the forms asks the principal applicant to fill out and/or sign, do i have to send them to vietnam so she can do it? or can i fill it out and sign for her?

You are sponsor, she is the applicant. Yes, any forms that the applicant has to fill out or sign, your wife should do it, sign it/date it, then mail it back to you. Express shipping is $50 for 3 day shipping in Vietnam. Don't forget, form IMM 1344 is mainly your form, but there is a section where your wife has to sign it, so for that form, I suggest you fill out the form first, email it to your wife, tell her to print it out and sign it, then mail it to you along with the other forms that she's supposed to fill out.

You can fill the forms for her and just simply get her to sign it.

Yes when you're married, you should let the goverment know right away, you can do this by calling the Canada Revenue Agency and changing your status to married. You should also make the habit of saying you are married whenever you're buying a house, getting a loan, etc. You cannot legalize or register marriage until she lands in Canada with her PR.

Note that when you change your status to married, when you file your taxes, you are eligible for a tax credit even if your wife isnt PR yet. To claim that credit, you need to show proof that you are financially supporting your wife often, and you need to show if your wife is earning any money back in Vietnam. The less money she makes, the bigger your tax credit.

If you're confused, keep posting questions here.

my wife doesn't know much english so on the "sponsored questionnaire form, she writes the long answers in vietnamese and then has to get it translated. right?

so the best way is for me to fill out all the forms, even her parts, but just let her answer the long answers that require further explanation, send the saved forms in email to her, have her print them out, sign her parts and include her long answers (translated) and then express mail them back to canada, forms completed?

Hey Alex,

I indicate on the forms that I was acting as the translator for my wife. My wife can't fill out any of the forms in English either. However, we did answer and fill in the forms together. It was a lot easier for me to write everything down in English and have her copy what I wrote and fill in the forms afterward. Make sure you get her to open up the files in Adobe Reader. Most people in Vietnam don't use Adobe Reader, so the files will look a bit odd. Also the bar code on the application form does not appear if you are using other software to open up those forms. Once it is sign, she can just mail it to you. That's probably the easiest way.

Hello ... My wife applicant just went on Decision Made on April 25. Does anyone wife just went on Decision Made recently and got the Visa already? How long does it usually take for IOM or Canadian embassy in Vietnam to call to pick up the Visa ... Please let me know if your wife already pass through the experience. Thanks ...

My wife's ECAS was changed to Decision Made on May 5th and still waiting for her PP and visa. IOM is no longer providing the service of sending/receiving PPs from SVO. My wife has to sent it via DHL and we would expect SVO to send it back by courrier or registered mail. Your wife should be receiving it soon.

Mikey is right ... I spend $5 dollars to order the GCMS note and it was the best $5; I have ever spend. The note explain exactly what the Visa Officer view your case ... In October, I order the note and the visa officer highlight all their concerns. I send an enquiry to updates ... and within four weeks after I send the inquiry, our application went on In Progress ... Reading you guys cases, I just want to help because honestly, in October I was sick worrying that they will put my wife on Interview ... Good thing I order the note and everything turn out great.
Hi,
my husband order GCMS note this morning but not successful cause he just has visa debit card (not credit card as required). Does they accept that kind of card? or can you suggest any other kind of payment? Thanks
