Hi,

I'm new to the Family sponsorship side of the forum and am looking for some advice.

Recently my parents expressed an interest to start visiting me since they have recently retired and have the time. I have applied for my PR under the Canadian Experience Class and am waiting for the result (expected around june -Aug 2013). I am on a extended visitor status until then.

I understand they cannot apply for the Family Super visa as I am not a resident yet. However they would like to visit me for a few months each year (maybe more maybe less).

Questions :

(1) In this situation as per what I've read, the only way for them is to apply for a visitor visa with multiple entry. Is there any other option?
(2) Is there a possibility for them to get a visitor visa for more than 6 months? Or will they have to apply each time they visit until they apply and get a Super Visa? Any idea how long they give a regular visit visa for parents?
(3) If they come here on a Visitor Visa, can they apply for a super visa while in Canada? Can they stay here on implied status until then? Will the processing time be 6 months (step 1)+8 months (step 2) since they are applied from inside Canada?
(4) Can they apply for a Super Visa when eligible and apply for a regular visit visa in the meantime (since the processing time for a super visa from India is 32 (step 1)+36 months (step 2)!)

Any comments or advice would be appreciated. Thank you :)

I think you were looking at Family Class sponsorship timelines, which for now has been suspended (for parents/grandparents). The timeline for New Delhi processing TRV or super-visa:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/temp/visitors.asp

is THREE days!

Would recommend you wait until you are eligible to apply for a "super-visa" for them, as I understand it (from here) a visitor's visa is likely to be denied.

Seems like I was seriously confused! I was actually getting sad about the whole timeline. So basically they can apply for the super visa once I have my PR and get it within 3 days!!!! ;D

Just wondering why you think a regular visitor visa would be denied if they applied before I got my PR? If they show the funds and say they just want to visit family (i have aunts and uncles here) do you think it'll still be rejected? I suppose my parents information is there in my PR application somewhere. They wanted to visit soon but I can ask them to wait if applying sooner doesn't work in their favor due to my circumstances.

But Thanks for clearing such a big thing out for me truesmile! :)

1) Multiple Visitor visa or single for that matter, no other option
2) Multiple visit visa can be max upto 10 years or upto expiry of passport. Upon each entry, they will be given 6 months ( 99% of time ), they can extend their stay for another 6 or even further provided they satisfy the reason. Super visa is only when you are resident and make enough to meet LICO
3) Yes, how it works is they come on visitor visa and get 6 months and then apply for Supervisa which is technically a 2 year extension, however, they need to satisfy the Super visa criteria which requires a sponsor ( you ) to be here atleast for a year and meet LICO
4) You are confused, 32 and 36 month step if for Parent Sponsorship which is on pause for 2 years since Nov, 2011 and no one knows what will happen when the 2 year pause end BUT to answer your question hypothetically - YES, if you were sponsoring your folks, they can apply for Multiple or Supervisa while that sponsorship is in process.

Multiple Visitor Visa = Takes 1 week if applied from VFS India and longer by 15-20 days if they ask for Medicals Can live upto six months and extend or return and come back for another Can also extend to supervisa if they meet criteria
Supervisa = Atleast 30 days, requires medical, requires a sponsor like son, who meets LICo, need to buy 1 year med insurance beforehand. Can live upto 2 years
Parent Sponsorship = Paused at this time
( There are many users including me, whose parents are here while their sponsorship is being finalized in New Delhi )

Hi user828,

Thank you for the detailed reply. I just got my Medical request today so I think I'll wait until I get my PR and then ask my parents to apply for the Super visa since this might take 2-3 months at the most. I do realize I still have to get a full time job before they can apply.

You said that a visit visa can be issued for upto 10 years as long as we satisfy that they have ties to the home country. However if they were to apply for a Super Visa would the same 10 year possibility apply?

Also I've been in Canada for about 9 years now, so once I get my full time job after getting my PR will I have to wait for a year to show I have 1 year employment? (I've had 2 years full time employment already that made me eligible to apply for PR). Basically what I'm asking is, can I give a letter of employment as soon as I get a job for my parents' super visa requirements?

Your reply and posts on Visitor Visa help was very helpful. Thank you and +1 for your help :)

You can use a 'letter of employment', yes. Research the income requirement however, I can't remember the amount, but I recall being very surprised at how high it was.

Supervisa is a Multiple entry visa upto 10 years with stay upto 2 years in 1 shot. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=427&t=16

Who is eligible for a parent and grandparent super visa?

To be eligible for the super visa, applicants must be the parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Dependants of parents and grandparents are not eligible for the super visa. However, they can apply for a regular visitor visa. The super visa applicants must also be found admissible to Canada and meet some other conditions.

Visa officers consider several factors before deciding whether an applicant is admissible. Officers must believe the applicant is a genuine visitor to Canada who will leave by choice at the end of the visit. Among the things the officer might consider are the following:

the person's ties to his or her home country;
the purpose of the visit;
the person's family and financial situation;
the overall economic and political stability of the home country; and
invitations from Canadian hosts.
The parent or grandparent must also do the following:

provide a letter promising financial support from their child or grandchild in Canada who has a minimum income;
prove he or she has Canadian medical insurance for at least one year to cover the time he or she will be in Canada; and
complete an immigration medical examination.
==========

I assume you would be able to show LICO after 1 year of income, not sure how its gone just after getting PR unless you pay advanced tax or something
