Hello

I know it has been discussed many times, and I checked older threads and from what i gathered it's possible.
However RBC told me it's not possible and it's the law of Canada. And don't bother with other banks because they will tell you the same.

I'm really in a bad situation. I'm working on an asylum case with a lawyer with really valid reasons but it will take some time to complete the basis of claim etc.

My current bank account from my original country could be stopped any moment. I know another person from my country who had the same issue, they just froze his bank account as soon as he applied for asylum.

I have all the forms of ID, passport, the normal ID. Divining licence. all my bank cards with my name on it.

So, did the law change? because i'm pretty sure a lot of people said it was possible.

Dont think its possible but just pop into the branches for each bank or call them to make sure should take a few hours max.

Yes I'm contacting them at the moment,
I mean it makes sense to not open an account for temporary visitor but i got the impression it was possible.

Update:

I was able to open a BMO account with just my passport.
Hi, would you be able to give more details of this? How it went, what documents they were asking for, which type of account did you get, and also did you receive a bank card for that? Thanks
