open work permit / PhD

Hi everybody!

I am an Italian student and have applied to several PhD programs in Canada. I have previously studied 4 years in the US (2009-2013) and 1 year in the UK (2013-2014). I intend to bring my girlfriend with me as a common law partner. She is from Slovakia and we have been living together officially for almost two years.

If I get accepted and get a study permit, given our situation, can she apply for an open work permit?

Yes - she can certainly apply. However there is no guarantee she will be approved.
