Currently, I am living in Canada and I am on a tourist visa. My boyfriend is here on the WHV with the IEC and he has work. My understanding is I can apply for a open work permit under the common partner visa. I have been offered a job and am waiting for the organisation to email me my job offer. I have a few questions.
1/ We are planning on going to New York in January for 5-7 days and will then return to Canada. Can I apply for a open work permit on arrival at the border? I appreciate that we have to prove we are in a relationship and my boyfriend has to show his job is either level O, A or B.
2/ If it is not possible, I appreciate I can apply online but how long does it take? My current tourist visa is due to expire end of February.
