Hello all.

We submitted our application for common law sponsorship near the end of last year and as of now it is still waiting in line to be processed.
My partner had paid for the open work permit fee together with the application fees when we submitted.

I was under the impression that she cannot apply for an open work permit until they start processing the sponsorship application.

Is my assumption correct? When can my partner officially apply for an open work permit?

Thank you.

Ideally you should have included the OWP application together with the inland spousal sponsorship application.

What is her status in Canada at this time?

I should've included it? Oh no...

She is currently just on visitor's visa.

What should be my course of action now?

Thank you for your response, scylla!

Should I apply online right away?
You can't apply online until you have AIP on the sponsorship. There's a reason why you were supposed to include it in the PR application.

Mail in the application now and hope it's dealt with.

This is unfortunate news. Everything is so confusing with these applications.

Thank you for your response!

The guidelines tell you how to include the OWP application underneath the barcode pages for your PR application. It's unfortunate that this part was confusing :(
