Hello Forum members,

I have applied for the inland PR sponsorship (5 months ago), and am currently in Canada with a visitor status (1 year granted via extension). I did not include the open work permit (OWP) application with my PR application.

Now I wish to submit OWP application to minimize the time gap between AIP and OWP approval. I have some concerns as I am submitting two applications separately.

1. I found that people generally submit OWP application with PR application. As I am doing OWP separately, is there a chance that OWP application does not go together with PR and get rejected?

2. What are the ways to avoid the potential OWP rejection?

I appreciate any help!

From what I understand, there is not a very long delay if you simply wait until you receive AIP and then apply for OWP online. Something like 2-3 weeks. There's always a risk, when sending in paper documents, of things getting lost/not matched up to your application. The only way to apply for OWP now, before AIP, is by paper (online application before AIP will be rejected), by writing "Please hold for AIP" on it and hoping they follow your instructions and that it is matched up correctly with your file.

If I were you, I'd just wait to get AIP, then immediately submit an online OWP application.

1. You can no longer submit an OWP with your "in Canada" spousal application as it goes to Mississauga rather than Vegreville.
2. You have to wait for Approval in Principal to apply for OWP.
