Hi there, I have a question. I am foreign worker and my lmo and work permit are still valid until april 2015. I'm getting married next saturday to a canadian citizen in the church here in canada. Then we will fly to philippines for a 3 week vacation. My question is, is there possible way that they can give me an open work permit in the port of entry since I will come back to Canada. Is there anyone who has dealt with this situation? Can I do this since I have a valid visa, LMO, work permit and marriage license?

Pretty sure the answer to this is no. Why do you think you would qualify for an OWP?

Marrying a Canadian does not entitle you to an open work permit.

If your husband sponsors you for PR using the inland (within Canada) process, you will be entitled to an open work permit once your application has received first stage approval. Although the CIC site shows 6 months, I understand from the experiences of the members of this forum that first stage approval is actually taking around 9-10 months.

There is no open work permit granted with the outland spousal sponsorship process.

Okay, thank you for your replies. In that case, I guess my husband and I will do the spousal sponsorship to apply for the open work permit. Hopefully we will be lucky and be able to get it within six months.
