Hi there,
My partner (Canadian Citizen) and I Australian applying for sponsorship visa inland for PR.
I came in as a visitor 4 months ago as family emergency. Still here valid status but need to work!
Finally received an application number after a 3.5 month wait. Did not attach OWP application with a file as we did not know it should have been. Immigration lawyer said I could go to the border and get an OWP? Not convinced. Has anyone done this my application just says in process on the log in not approved or anything?

No - you can't obtain the OWP by flagpoling. You need to mail in the application.

Sounds to me like your lawyer is getting confused between the rules that apply to spousal sponsorships and that that apply to spouses accompanying temporary foreign workers.

Australian and you applied inland? If that was under the advice of your lawyer, s/he is an idiot. Sydney has one of the fastest processing times of any CIC office, averaging around 6-8 months.

I know of at least three June/July applicants that have already been approved, they seem to be even faster of late.

I'm not surprised to see that. In 2013 and early last year, most Sydney apps were zooming through in 3-4 months, including SA. I think it slowed down a bit mid last year but it's still one of the fastest offices.

Thanks for the advice. We did Australian PR for my partner did not pay a lawyer it went smooth and so much correspondence. We did it here on our own too i just rang lawyer for a few questions. Don't hear anything and cannot call anyone that can tell you useful information in this process. We should have applied for outside but from my understanding they don't give work permits with an outside? Although we travel a little bit and now i'm not meant to leave with an Inside application. ::)

Correct, there is no work permit associated with outland applications, but you could've been a PR within the next few months (or even already!), whereas you might have to wait a bit longer for your work permit, and you aren't supposed to leave the country with an inland application.
