Hi, hoping for some advice.
I have been in Canada now for over 3 years married to my Canadian wife, my PR is still in process , although on thier site it says descision made, i also still have nine months left on a 3 year open work permit.
so my wife recently decided she wants to separate and my question is , is my work permit still valid until its end date ? this would give me time to figure out my residence.
Many Thanks

1. Yes it is still valid. Note that you have to tell CIC that you are now separated.

thank you, i will do that in the new year... i guess by mail is the best way .

much appreciated

You should inform CIC immediately as it will impact your PR application. Failure to do so will probably result in you being investigated for misrepresentation.

yes buts that is easier said than done, i have been trying to find a way of calling or mailing them but i just keep ending up at the help centre..... any suggestions?

To get through to the agents on the call line you need to navigate through the automated system, eventually you will get to the point where you can hit 0 to talk to an agent. The problem is, you might have the same issue I did and not be able to get through, it will tell you they have a high volume of calls and to try again later. I'd recommend trying around 8-8:30 in the morning tomorrow.

I believe so. You're more likely to get in touch if you call them in the morning before they get bogged down with calls.

I'm sorry to hear about your marriage. Keep your chin up! :)

I realized I didn't answer your original question - if your open work permit is one that you received after applying inland for PR (upon first stage approval), it may be affected by the fact that your marriage is breaking up. If you got the OWP by other means before sending the PR app in, you should be fine.

oh ! yes the pr application was started feb 2012 and i was given the permit sept 2012 ... now im not sure what to do

my friend (I am an prospective resident just like you), DON'T BE RASH! You said that your wife just decided to divorce. At an official level, nobody care about your intentions... Are you OFFICIAL divorced?... If not, it means that you are official still engaged! Don't rush and wait till everything became official! After that you have a 30 days to announce by e-mail the changes in your status! Just send the e-mail at the address provided by them!... is not your problemm if somebody read that e-mail or not! (you probably signed a form that stated that the corespondence through your e-mail is legal and official!)

and your workpermit is valid untill some officials, officialy aknowledge you that it became not valid... an official paper made by the canadian government is not something which you can decide with your judgement if is still valid or not!...
