Anyone had positive experiences getting their ontario marriage certificate quicker than the 10 weeks listed on the website? We're pretty much ready to apply for PR but it's very frustrating having to wait so long for a marriage certificate when it seems to be much quicker in other provinces/countries.

I got my certificate about a month after I got married. I applied online a week after the wedding date and then it only took about 3 weeks to come in after that.

I was in the same situation as you.
Read this thread that I made a month ago: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/ontario-marriage-certificate-proof-of-urgency-how-to-get-it-t334772.0.html

I got my marriage certificate in less than a week. Hope it could help you. If you have any doudts don't hesitate in ask!!!

Thank you! I'm starting to draft a similar letter now, can't hurt to try.

Did you take it into the Toronto office or fax it in? I'm wondering how I could show the visa stamp as proof through fax.

I also got mine in about 1 month and we got married end of June (so probably one of the busiest months). I think what helped a little was that our officiant sent in a note stating that we required the certificate for immigration. We didn't have the same urgency proof as in that thread, but still got it quickly.

Like the others said, you don't have to wait until its registered you can just apply online right away and they will process it as soon as it is. Good luck!

I replied you in the thread of the topic I mentioned to you 8)

Just bumping this, the marriage certificate has to be the certified marriage certificate and not the file sized one correct?

If you can get both ,get both . Many of us have sent different ones and some have been asked for the other one. I sent off the long form one and it was fine. Another member sent off the long certificate and was asked for the short visa versa.

Will do, hopefully they both arrive at the same time and I'm not waiting longer for one version.

When we were getting ours, the waiting periods were pretty much dead on with the info on the website. We ordered it earlier but still had to wait.

Before you can get a marriage certificate, a marriage needs to be registered. The official who performed the marriage will do this by sending a complete and signed marriage licence to ServiceOntario. You can order a marriage certificate about 6-8 weeks after this happens.

I ordered both at the same time (only $30 more I think), and they both arrived at the same time. Our settlement consultant said it is the file size one they are looking for, but then i read on here that people were requested to send in the short version one instead because it "didn't look like a marriage certificate". Go figure..

Did you order them not long after your wedding? And if so how long did you have to wait for them to arrive?

I mentioned previously in the thread that I ordered them basically the Monday or Tuesday after our Saturday wedding. We came back from our honeymoon about 10 days later, and it already arrived. So I think all in all it took about 2 weeks. We may have just gotten lucky, though our officiant did include a little note when she sent the papers that we needed the certificate done as soon as possible. So maybe that helped.

Nice, heres hoping for a similar result.

Bumping again, people who got theirs quicker than the 10 weeks, when checking your order status online did it update after a few weeks saying the marriage had been registered and the certificate was being processed? Or did it continue just to say 'wait the 10 weeks before checking your status' the whole time and the certificate just turned up anyway?
