I know this is Canadian immigration forum but NOBODY can deny that American Immigration policy toward H1B and F1 holders has DIRECT impact on Canadian Immigration.

Contact the senators of your area. Small efforts lead to big victories. AWARENESS TO THE CAUSE IS THE KEY. If you don't contact them WHO ELSE WOULD?? If a senator is aware of an issue then only he/she would raise it in congress when CIR is introduced otherwise they just care about illegal aliens.

Dear Senator:

The latest CIR proposal has provision to grant path to legalization i.e. Green card for Illegal aliens living in US for 5 or more years. At the same time this proposal is limiting this 5 year rule to ILLEGAL ALIENS only. Illegal aliens who have broken the law are being preferred over legal aliens. I request you to fight for law abiding and tax paying legals aliens, including H1B and F1 visa holders in this rule. H1B holders like me have to beg employers to sponsor my Green card while illegal person living in US automatically will get a green card without any sponsorship requirements. I request you to demand "GREEN CARD FOR LEGAL ALIENS LIVING IN US FOR 5 years just as Hispanic Caucus in the congress is demanding green card to Illegals living in US for 5 years". This would require changing of any clause/subclause from "Path to Green Card for illegal alien present in US on date of enactment of legislation" to "Path to Green Card for any alien present in US on date of enactment of legislation". Also, even legal aliens living lawfully in US for less than 5 years should be rewarded for entering US legally and should be given preference over illegal immigrants who entered US illegally.

Thank you!!
Kind regards,

XYZ

Although economy is bad, Obama and Hispanic caucus is trying hard to push for CIR by this year. Generally, due to huge number and votes, illegal aliens get preference in CIRs. Legal aliens just see harder rules and more and more difficult labor certification requirements. So, Email them or write on the contact forms available on each senator's website:
http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm
http://www.house.gov/house/MemberWWW.shtml

THE key is a simple change in the clause/subclause in the text of legislation. Generally if 10 or more senators raise the issue with subcommittee working on legislation the text can be changed before it goes for vote. So, each of those senators should get emails from atleast 5-10 people to become aware of of the issue.

Dont just complain about your F1, H1B and GC woes - DO ATLEAST SOME THING, GO AHEAD AND COPY PASTE THE TEXT.

i am curious as to why you say it will have a direct impact on canadian immigration? is it because more h1b and f1s will try go to Canada?

yes....didnt you see that AINP SRS is only for H1B guys and if US gives Green card to all the guys applying for AINP - nobody gives a damn to AINP. Only reason these people are applying is not because they love beautiful Albertan Rocky Mountains but because they are fed up of US GC process. Atleast 99% guys will opt out if US issue GC to these guys.

But the impact for Alberta is good. So if I am going to immigrate on FSW and a lot of H1B guys go to Alberta, this would be good for the Canadian economy which would be good for me. Could that not be one argument.

I think if anything has to be done about US immigration it will be immigration reform which means they'll have to reform the whole immigration system of the united states.Every immigrant legal or illigal will benefit from the immigration reform.Obama promised that and l'm pretty sure he'll deliver on that. However we are on this Forum for Canada immigration and if you decide to fight for US immgration Good for you, if you decide to continue with your Canadian immigration process good for you. It's all about knowing what you want and fighting for it.
Good Luck to all

I agree with you whole heartedly. Mostly of all citizens of the US should benefit from it. After all, it is their country.

lol...see people are so curious about H1B and F1 laws even though they are applying for Canadian immigration..

anyways, Rupesh - this comment was not for you, so please dont take it for you. It was just about the discussion going above Topic - Why H1B and F1 visa laws in US effect Canadian immigration...

obvious reasons exist but people just try to deny the reality.

To answer your question - My top post is about the coming up CIR. Discussions have started by Obama on June 19th about new immigration reform and H1B and f1 guys should try to influence this bill toward them in same way as Hispanic caucus is trying to influesnce the bill toward illegal aliens. Our GC status in US effect our Canadian immigration plans.

i didn't even know that a new law is coming up. Will it make getting F1 harder or mostly for GC? I am curious, would most people rather stay in the US than go to Canada? I always felt that I want to go to Canada even if I get a chance to stay here on EB1.

So when is the bill going for vote?

They are just starting to discuss posibilities of immigration reform if things go well then they'll be a bill by the end of this year. The Senate majority leader Harry Reids has called the immigration issue a priority for the US senate and plands to take up sometime this year.
