My question is if its better to apply as family/group application with children or is there an impact if the spouse will apply separately due to cost of the citizenship application.

If you apply together or separately the cost is the same. Fees is paid per applicant.

The only impact is that the whole family have the same timeline.
If a parent has a lengthy application for this or that reason, everyone waits, but that's about it.

The oath ceremony will always be together for a family.
As for the test, you're now given a 3 weeks period and complete it online whenever you want. But to be honest, I don't know if everyone is assigned the exact same 3 weeks period.
