I spoke with a CIC Representative today via phone on a separate matter, but asked him this question...

Me: Just out of curiosity, I have a 14 year old son who applied with me under the old rules in September. Will he have to take the Knowledge Test as required under old rules or will he be exempt because of the new rules?

CIC: The important date is not when the application was accepted, but when the invitation to the Knowledge Test is issued. As that date would be under the new rules, he would not have to take the Knowledge Test.

Whether he has to take it or not as a 14 year old does he not himself have inclination to learn some facts about his new country ?

Ok, so this isn't about his desire to know about Canada, it was merely posted as an indication as to how the previous rules and the current rules are being implemented by CIC. We were just curious, and thought members of the forum would be as well.

As per his knowledge of Canada, he'd pass the test with more ease than my wife or myself, as he's had 4.5 years of Canada specific history at school. Thanks for your concern though!
