So now that we have SA and AIP....I sent fingerprints to FBI ...sent some other documents to CIC that they requested in their letter( hubbys FMEP acc statement and freshly filled background decl. - Schedule A).....So nos the most Daunting task of getting my Passport...I Have to go to Ottawa in PERSON from BC to apply for it (Is Bosnia the ONLY country in the World who makes people trave across whole Canada to apply for passport!? Grrr!!)..Anyways...being hers so long ...my Bosnian ID and drivers licence have expired....so my Qs are:

1. Can I travel by plane w my Bosnian gvt issued ID (expitlred last year)?

If the answer is "No!"

Can I get BC drivers licence before I get OWP??? Or do I have go get OWP and then go apply for licence

So that I can then use it to go get this DAMN passport!

Can I travel w CIC letter that says I meet the Eligibility etc etc

Thanks!!

Yes - you need a valid passport.

You need government ID to board a plane domestically. To the best of my knowledge - that ID must be valid (so I don't think your Bosnian ID will be accepted). I can't answer your BC drivers license question. No - the letter from CIC cannot be used as a substitute for government ID for airline travel.

You will need the OWP to get your BC DL.

Looks like you may have to take a road trip from Victoria to Ottawa...in the heat of Summer.

Yay! :o

Bleech!!! That's what I was afraid of!! 2.5 DAYS bus trip just to get there..... :o :o :o

Required Documents for Domestic Travel

According to the Identity Screening Regulations, the required identification to take a domestic flight is:

one piece of valid government-issued photo identification that shows the holder's name, date of birth and gender;
two pieces of valid government-issued identification, at least one of which shows the holder's name, date of birth and gender; or
a restricted area identity card.

For domestic flights within Canada, any valid identification that is issued by a recognized federal, provincial, or municipal government institution that has the required information may be used. Below are some examples of valid government-issued identification documents. Most would be sufficient on their own, while others may need to be supplemented with a second piece of valid government-issued identification:

passport
citizenship card
permanent-resident card
driver's license
provincial health card
provincial identity card
provincial or territorial government identification cards (GICs)
birth certificate
Record of Landing Form/Confirmation of Permanent Residence (IMM 5292)
immigration documents issued to foreign nationals (e.g., Work Permit, Study Permit, Visitor Record, Temporary Resident Permit, Refugee Approved Status)
Canadian military identification
federal police identification
federal, provincial or municipal government employee identification cards
Old Age Security (OAS) identification card
Certificate of Indian Status (Status Card) issued by Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC)
Canada Border Services Agency NEXUS card
firearms license

I would check the airline's requirements. For example, Air Canada requires:

In accordance with government regulations, Air Canada is required to check identification at the boarding gate for all passengers who appear to be 18 years of age or older. The name on the ID must match the name used on the reservation or ticket. The passenger must present:
Two (2) pieces of government issued non-photo identification with matching names as long as at least one piece also includes the date of birth and gender; or
One (1) piece of government issued identification with photo showing the name, date of birth and gender.

Notice that it doesn't specify that the photo identification must be valid.

Even an expired passport may still be ok if it's simply proving the identity of the passenger?

Thank you Ponga & Scylla...That's what I'm thinking...its still a gvt issued ID...even if slightly expired...but I will take all my IDs...documents(Birth cert, proof of citizenship etc) to the airport and ask them is this Enough proof of identity to board the plane...fingers crossed! I REALLY don't want to travel for 4+ DAYS on a bus or a train lol

I went from Vancouver to Montreal with Greyhound last year (yes, 5 days!). I think they ask me for ID too. Maybe you should call the company and explain your situation before buying ticket.

Was it no longer valid?

I just came back yesterday from a domestic flight via Porter. Definitely they ID requirement is much more lax for domestic flights as they just do a quick cursory check of the ID. They just want to match the photo and name on the ID with the boarding pass. I doubt they even look at expiry dates.

What was no longer valid?
My polish id is and was valid, so is my passport and Canadian driver's license - I just wanted to see if it works :)
