Hey everyone,

June 2018 inland applicant here. Got the OWP a couple months back but shortly before that, my job contract changed from full-time in house to freelance part-time (24 hours). I know that to get OHIP you need a full-time job, though I had originally planned to get a second part-time job (little did I know that wouldn't fly with Service Ontario).

Being locked out of OHIP sucks, as anyone can attest. I also do not want to sacrifice my well paid part-time gig for new territory, but I do want to supplement it with a part-time and still get OHIP somehow. I know it's cheeky, but if I were to get a full-time job and ask for the letter from the employer which I need to apply for OHIP, then leave and pursue what I really want, will my OHIP somehow become invalid or will they not know?

With two jobs across ~50 hours, I'll still be paying taxes and contributing like everyone else, so I feel it's ethically sound. Just wondering if anyone has some (perhaps sobering) info on this idea. Thanks!

Hey thanks but I already know the rules for applying and this doesn't really answer the question. If I were to get a full-time job that is projected to last a minimum of 6 months, I then meet all the requirements:

"You have a work permit that is valid for at least 6 months. You also have a formal agreement to work full-time for an employer in Ontario. The agreement states the employer's name, your occupation, and states that you will be working for at least 6 consecutive months."

Next, I need a letter from the employer stating confirming the above. The question is, after I obtain that and apply for OHIP, can I leave the full-time job and carry on with 2 part-time jobs?

You realize that you are asking if you can commit healthcare fraud...
