This is, unfortunately, true. As a native born American I have native English, and not just any English, but a form of North American English. I had to take the IELTS test. It was hilarious, a waste of time and money, and well... Shows how immigration is just a bunch of crazy rules sometimes.
Its not just crazy rules, its absolutely ridiculous! Im from England, so you can imagine how annoyed I was when I had to take the test. It's just another way to get money out of us!

Danny - I understand your frustration. I was too initially...then it occurred to me that that's the only way to ensure equity on an issue (language) Canada deems critical to integration. Not all people from England have a good command of English. There were parts of London I visited 2 years ago....I was shocked at how poor their command of English was. They spoke no English and they're British. How do you separate those non-integrated Brits from you that have a fairly good command of the language (Same passport)? The only way is to legislate a common test. By the way, I lived on the South Coast of England most of my live, and moved to the US over 10 years ago. I still had to take the test. Going through this Canadian journey made me realize what the UK home office should focus on to improve integration of immigrants there - Language capability. They need to legislate and make language test compulsory for EVERYONE wanting to immigrate. No excuses. If you can't communicate, you can't integrate. An excluded populace eventually becomes problematic.

Yeah, I understand you're point, it's a shame that some people who call them selfs English (or from any other English speaking country) don't really have a good command of the language, which again is just unreal to me. Although sometimes I do struggle to understand someone from London, I think they are starting there own language down there lol

I don't want to make it a thread, but I am a language teacher and unfortunately tests don't work this way. You have to compare native speakers to native speakers and non-native to non-native in order to mark according to fairness and have a safe result of the test takers' performance. Also, what a person speaks as a slang/ idiom/dialect cannot be measured as a non-language, hpwever it's certainly what test takers know when they take the written test, along with the spoken; they have to use mainstream North American English. This test is one of the worst designed tests, it has extreme limitations but it's a huge business, so no wonder.
On another note, I received IP 20 days ago and still waiting. No PPR yet, just an email passport copy request, we are inland applicants, is that normal? Thanks!
