I think it's more the relationship being short part than the not having children together part they care about... i guess so that they are being proactive if it turns out to be a marriage of convenience.
It's a backstop -- it lets them relax the enforcement slightly for marriages of convenience and it gives a valid legal "out" for sponsors who are duped into sincerely falling for someone who is themselves insincere.

I think the motivation for the condition not applying with regards to kids is for the best interest of the child. If the parents separate, applying something like condition 51 would turn a custody battle into an international custody battle.

Oh I see....we started dating in 2009, then got into a common law relationship in 2010 and got married in september 2014. So we have been married for less than a year but we sent evidence of having lived together since 2010. So maybe thats why no condition. Well, good then ;) thanks a lot.

I was reading September thread and somebody from there received an email from CIC, stating that it was their second email requesting a couple of documents. The person said they never received the first email.

That's something I haven't heard of. Maybe CIC never sent the first email but they thought they did and they had been waiting for the requested documents when the applicants never received the request.

I really hope it's not the case. But ever since CIC misplaced my outland application in inland pile and after hearing other stories about CIC's mistake, sadly I wouldn't be surprised if the situation above was due to CIC's mistake.

Regardless, it doesn't hurt to check your junk mails too.

GMCS notes also show document requests.

Oh nice! I see almost everybody is ordering GMCS notes these days. I read a lot of people said it's helpful and worth it. I never really got around to it though.

It's the only way to actually monitor progress on your file, since eCAS is more or less useless. On the other hand, the notes also tend to take the full month to arrive (and mine are officially late), so they're not exactly prompt.

Yes, ecas is useless. I wouldn't have known about GMCS notes if I didn't find this forum. Maybe it was mentioned in application guide or SA letter or somewhere and I missed it?

It's not, because CIC doesn't encourage it as a front-line communications tool. We have access to our respective files through Access to Information and Privacy Act legislation, rather than as an actual in-regulation, CIC-created program.

It's a shame, since if eCAS showed the detailed status (such as "eligiblity... in progress") and any pending document requests from the visa office, much of the need for GMCS would be eliminated. It's not like we really need to see agents' notes on a timely basis if everything is going normally.

I should have said ecas is useless when it comes to monitoring application's progress. After all, it's the ecas that gave me the good news, DM.

Yea, why can't ecas be a little more detailed. We are not asking too much here. It'd add more work on the agents though I suppose.

Legacy systems and procedural intertia, really. It wasn't that long ago that CIC transitioned away from a paper-based system to the electronic GMCS. As I understand it the express entry side of things has a better online presence, but that entire stream was created out of whole cloth last year.

So I still can't edit the October spreadsheet, but have no issues with editing the Ottawa spreadsheet (so that's current for me). If anyone CAN edit October, I received my COPR yesterday, July 9, with Application starting processing on July 29, Decision Made on June 30 and updated in ECAS on July 3.

I have to land prior to August 13, which seems quick, but no complaints here ;D

Hello Everyone!!

I got decision made on 7/7 and passport request. I send my passport to CPC Ottawa.

Can someone please let me know how long CIC takes me to return the passport?

This seems to vary based on the visa office. Ottawa processes the bulk of US citizen applicants who do not usually receive a passport request, so it is hard to come up with a firm guideline. From the Ottawa spreadsheet, those who received a passport request last year mostly reported receiving their COPR within a month.

Some of the entries seem a bit confused, however, as a few lines report a passport request after COPR receipt, or a passport request alongside a documentation request that wasn't for the passport itself -- this is likely part of the general uncommonness of passport requests from CPC-Ottawa.
