I have read up on this a bit more, and have heard that when you get to the US border, they give you an administrative letter stating that US can not allow you to enter. Does anyone know if this affects applying for US visa in the future?
It does not affect your application for US visa, I applied right after I got my PR card and got a 10 year visit visa.

Hi Draxx... How long did it take you to receive your PR card?

Secondly I am here in the US under a student status and as a student I enter the US with an expired US student visa from Canada. Now that I have my COPR and will be landing in Canada soon. Will if affect my return to the US to finish my last semester? As I graduate in December? I mean I have all of my immigration documents in the US they are up to date. I20 etc but my student visa is expiring next month...and I have been doing in and out btn the US and Canada and getting back with an expired visa with not problems... As long as I keep my student status I will have not pb. I just wanna make sure that my status in Canada will not affect my student status here as I am graduating in December lol

Hey,

mine took 1.5 months I think but that's in 2012, the current processing time is 76 days and I would add another week to it.
If I understand this correctly: You are a student and your student visa has expired but you are able to leave and enter the US without it and you want to know that if your PR status will affect you being able to return?

I would presume your status in the US will not be affect by your new status in Canada since they you are still considered a student in the US.

Hi Draxx,

Thank you for this info. I actually called CIC and the lady told me that it will take about 65 calendar days from the time i land to receive my PR Card. Also with immigration you gotta make sure you know everything before making a move... I have one semester left for school and don't wanna jeopardize anything lol but im sure I will be fine. Thank you again for your response.

Did you get an email for DM?
No, in fact I have received no contact from CIC since sponsorship approval, aside from an automated acknowledgement message after sending an unsolicited e-mail copy of my CSQ.

I saw the DM and earlier in-progress status through checking my ECAS status. The IP was dated on June 10 and visible around June 15. I recommend not checking daily, as tempting as it is. I did that, and seeing no change (first before IP, then for the longer-than-expected IP->DM period) was rather stressful.

Remember that the PR card is useful for returning to Canada, not for leaving it. If you do have to return to the US in the autumn (with renewed student status, I would hope) without your PR card, it can be forwarded to you by your in-Canada spouse or partner [provided, I suppose, you are not commuting cross-border to classes]. In the meantime, please be careful how you present these plans to CBSA upon entering, since you do not want to represent that you aren't "really" moving to Canada at the time you land.

I'm still waiting too. On June 11, I got a request for my son's birth certificate. I guess my application is being delayed because of this document request.

Yup, we are still here too. Applied Oct 15th. We got a request for additional documents on June 30th which I guess means our COPR will take longer than I'd hoped as well. So much for enjoying our first summer in Canada together. :'(

Happy Canada Day!!

Happy Canada Day to all!

If you're willing to look on the bright side of things, a document request does mean that someone has looked at the application. No news really is the worst news, since there's no way to separate "everything is proceeding normally" from "the file is lost behind someone's desk."

October 1st. Still nothing. No doc request or anything since SA on Nov 26th. I'm confused as to why this is taking forever when they don't need anything from us. I ordered our notes and it said since our file got to Ottawa on Dec 1st all that happened is that it went to 'Registry' then to 'Inventory'. So.... it's quite depressing.
