Actually on form 0008 I put toronto :/ now i realize toronto doesnt have an office....hmmm...wonder where it will go....i hope it doesnt cause delays....

i had to pay 300 cadollars cause i was bringing my clothes which my husband bought me in london.the immigration people were so rude when they asked how long i was out of canada ,i replied honestly saying i was in london for 7 months and then he asked me what was the purpose of my visit and if i had a return ticket to london which i said no then he told me you stayed in london for 7 months and didnt buy anything there .i said my husband bought me clothes .he asked the value of the clothes which i said was roughly around 1000 pounds cause we bought wedding dresses for our religious ceremony and he asked me to convert in dolard which i said roughly i guess would be around 2000 cad dollard but i was not sure ,but these clothes i was not bringing in ,the immigration officer was s o rude he gave me my pr card and passport and the customs paper and asked me to go to the customs dept with that look .It was in the customs dept i was asked to pay which really pissed me off .they even mispelled my name on the receipt ,omg im still wondering if it was my fault because the immigration guy wrote 2000 dolard where you have to write what you are bringing to canada .anyways i never thought they would be so rude ,ive been in canada for the past 2 years ,i paid my taxes never went on benefit ,anyways cant expect much

Uh it sounds like there was some major confusion and major power tripping there. How frustrating. FYI to save yourself some $$ and stress...your 1000GBP is really only about $1600 CAD. Not sure if that makes a ton of difference. Also...what is the allowance for a 7month trip btwn Canada and England? Just curious.

i really dont have any clue .I was still thinking about my hubby when asked all these information .I never thought i would be asked such a question and the way he asked that was so rude,hoping that it does not happen to anyone.and besides i didnt add up all my expenses made on clothing which was rather embarassing.

Hi Bacon, thanks for adding me in on the spreadsheet. Just a small typo to correct, could you change the application received by CIC to 10/05/2012? Also, my application sent date was 09/30/2012, from Alberta through regular parcel.

Hi All,

I am about to submit my common law application. My wife is in Canadian PR holder and applied for her Canadian citizenship. Actually I applied before early this year under spousal sponsorship. Because we are legally married to but the problem was that my wife had a previous marriage and according to CIC that Divorce certificate was not valid. Unfortunately my wife can not apply for the divorce again because she does not have any contact with her x husband for last 5 years, since then she is in Canada and she does not even know where her ex husband is.

But as I have lived with her for more than a year continuously and I came to India this july 2012, so I have decided to apply as commonlaw this time by showing the proof of their separation as building lease paper and her statutory declaration for separation.

Please give me your inputs about my case and suggestions...I am desperately waiting friends.

As long as you have purchased, owned, and used the item (valued at under $10K) for at least 6 months, you are exempt from duty. This exemption is completely waived if you have been out of Canada for more than 5 years.

Aside from that, it doesn't matter if you are out for 7 days or 7 months, it is still $800CDN before duty applies.
