Hello All,

I have landed on 12th of August and currently in Quarantine for 14 days. I have to confirm about SIN. I need to get SIN for myself and my wife.

What is the procedure to apply for the SIN? Do we need to make an online appointment for the walk in process? o we can simply go to nearby office and obtain it directly from it without any appointment.

PS: I am in Montreal, Quebec.

you can apply in person, online or by mail. Easy way is to google nearby service Canada location and learn about covid protocol. You can even call them if you need to have an appointment

You need to book an appointment for in person appointment

I applied online the next day after I arrived. See if there's welcome center for your province or city. One of the social workers will help you with all the settlement requirements and things you need to apply for

There is one near to my house, I am in quarantine, I have filled the form, but my appointment is not yet confirmed as they have to call me back with the appointment date in 2 business days.

Wonderbly, can you please guide me regarding the govt. health insurance. I am on student permit so it will be covered by my university. But my wife is on OPEN Work Permit. Is she eligible for work permit here in Quebec? if yes then what is the procedure?

Yeah I have

Yes your wife can work with her OWP. No other processing is required. With the OWP, she doesn't need CAQ or CSQ to work.

Unfortunately, Quebec doesn't provide provincial health insurance for temporary residents (unless you are on govt scholarship or from a country with bilateral social security agreements with Quebec). You have to pay for private insurance or once your wife gets employment and working for 6 months, employer insurance can be available for you.

When I was planning to go to uni in Quebec, I had to buy additional coverage for my family through Bishop's University. I think it cost me about CAD2,000k for comprehensive coverage for 5 family members for a year. All this was refunded by the insurance company once I declined my admission at BU.

I am terribly sorry I mistakenly ask a wrong question. My actual question was, my wife is on Open Work Permit. Will she get the Govt. Health Insurance which cover pregnancy cost as well? If not, then do u have any idea about other private insurance company, that cover the pregnancy cost.

I don't think she will get govt coverage. Is she already pregnant? Cos some insurance will have waiting periods. You'll need to ask around - perhaps start with International Students office at your school.
