citizenship ceremony is a dignified and meaningful event. Therefore, the appropriate dress is business attire. Candidates can wear traditional or religious dress and head coverings.

IRCC officials or volunteers who notice candidates or guests wearing casual hats should approach them before the ceremony to ask them to remove their hat. A reminder can be given during the preamble.

Is there any dress code for oath ceremony?

Or its open to personal choice?

Thanks
No, the oath invitation does not mention any.
Of the 20 people who too oath, this is what I observed, just rough figures:
  • About 5, fully formal(Suit/Tie/Even flowers)
  • About 5, Semi-formal(I was in a semi formal attire)
  • About 5, smart/business casuals
  • About 5, traditional attire from their home countries
I did not see any in a casual attire like Ts/Shorts/ and such

I preferred to check, is that a problem bud?

You're right, common sense doesn't exist as people make unwanted comment on someone else's post!
Many think they are the super members of the forum...

I know there isn't an official dress code but I plan to wear a suit, even though I'm probably the most casually attired person in the world (I've been in shorts, tshirt and flip flips all summer, for example).

I think the occasion should be celebrated, even though most of the time we're just sitting around living our lives, it's still

I would dress as formal and nice as you possibly can. When it is my turn I will put on a nice dress and hubby will comes with me in a suit.

I've been to three ceremonies and I did see people in shorts, jeans, sandals, hoodies, etc. I guess those people view getting Canadian citizenship as just a bureaucratic exercise, similar to renewing one's driver's licence. At the other end of the spectrum, I've never seen anyone in "formal" attire, which suggests a tuxedo for men, ball gown for women. Most people are somewhere in between.

The youtube video about the ceremony (very informational by the way) says to wear business attire ( like you would in an office or job interview).
