I read on IRCC website that
"If you’re not available on the day of your ceremony, send us a message to explain why and get a new date. If you don’t give an explanation or your explanation isn’t reasonable, we may stop processing your application and not grant you citizenship"
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/canadian-citizenship/become-canadian-citizen/citizenship-ceremony.html

If someone took up a job offer outside Canada and cannot fly back to take the oath on the scheduled day and requests a reschedule, could it really lead to not granting citizenship?

If you scroll through the forum, you will find a number of threads where this is being discussed. A number of people have requested IRCC for rescheduling but no one so far has claimed that they were not granted citizenship because of this. Some have requested a change, got it soon, while some have not got a new date yet.

Given the backlog and the haphazard way oaths are being scheduled, you have to evaluate for yourself the benefits of asking for rescheduling. The key to this issue may lie in you not giving an explanation at all or an explanation that isn't reasonable.

In case you are in the US, it would probably be simpler to fly / drive back to take the oath. I personally know someone who is taking a 15 hours flight to return for the oath.
