I filed my application at the consulate on July 13. I didn't hear anything until this morning that "further checks are required." Since I have to get my visa back on or before Aug 13 (which is exactly one month from the date I applied), I'm thinking about withdrawing my application. According to the reply from the consulate, I can simply present myself at the visa office. Does anyone know if I can immediately get my passport back if I go to the consulate? If yes, then I'll wait and see if I'm lucky enough to have the visa approved within 30 days; if not, then I have to withdraw my application earlier. Your kind reply is greatly appreciated!!

Not sure, but please let us know what you find out. I may have to do the same thing at the LA consulate. This is just terrible.

Did you get a response to your email? You are very lucky in that regard as I have not received any response to any of my emails. We have travel arrangements made for Aug 9th, documents submitted on July 3rd including flight tickets, and they just dont give a s** to what happens in the world.

Why do you need to withdraw your visa application? Just ask them to return your passport, as you need it currently. Once they complete all the checks , they will advise you to submit your passport for visa stamping.

That'll be great if they'd allow me to get my passport back. Could you please tell me what I should do to get it back? simply go back to the visa office?

I made a status enquiry a week ago and received their response this morning. I then replied another email asking about more details. I'll post here if there's any progress. Good luck to everyone~

IF they allow walkins, then go ahead and ask for your passport.

I had a similar situation a year ago, i applied for US visit visa and they said my back groud check might take 2-3 months. I went to the US consulate and asked them to return my passport while my application is in process. They gave it back to me and after a month i got an email asking me to return passport for visa stamping.

Hope that helps.

Thank for your reply. I can try to do a walk-in but it seems that the guards at the NYC consulate are not that friendly...

I am in the same situation.

I applied on the 23rd of July... i didnt get a reply back for the longest of times, finally they responded and said that "back groud checks are still not complete". When i asked them about withdrawing my application as i needed my passports hey clearly said that i could ask for the return of the passports and the process to continue. they'll send me an email again when they need the passports for stamping. Thts a relief atleast
