Hello Senior Forum Members, I have a question on which I need help.

I and my spouse applied for citizenship together as a family application. We have recieved AOR and are waiting for test invite.

My spouse has now decided to not take Canadian citizenship (as it requires losing Indian citizenship). I understand that the test invite will be received by both together, pls. advise how and at which point should we withdraw spouse's application without impacting my application.
a) should we email right now
b) should I proceed to test; and attend ceremony - will I be allowed to do that alone if my spouse does not appear for test and does not communicate anything (as it is a family application)
c) should I proceed to test; and carry a letter about intent to withdraw from spouse

Any other options pls.

Also is it possible to get a refund of processing fees for spouse application.

Thanks a lot.

To answer your question, this is what it says on the website where you check your application status:

"If you wish to withdraw your application, you must advise us before a decision on your application has been made."

Since you didn't get test invite yet it means a decision is not made so you can withdraw. I am not too sure about the process of withdrawing but you can always apply for OCI card (Overseas Citizen of India) card which is almost same as Indian citizenship apart from a few barriers. Like you can't own agricultural land in India, vote in elections etc. Otherwise you can always visit India with it, stay there etc

Received AOR. Date: 25 Jan 2019.

I see the below statements in the letter.

All citizenship applicants between 18 and 54 years of age on the date they sign their application
must meet language and knowledge requirements to become a Canadian citizen. If this includes
you, you will need to:
• Demonstrate competence in basic communication in English or French.
• Pass a written or if necessary, an oral test on your knowledge of Canada and the rights
and responsibilities of citizenship.

I have question on the first point. I submitted IELTS which I took for my PR in 2011. Do I have to take IELTS test again?

Hi guys, i was just able to see my file in ecas and it says
  1. We received your application for Canadian citizenship (grant of citizenship) on November 19, 2018.
  2. We sent you correspondence acknowledging receipt of your application(s), and a study book called Discover Canada on January 25, 2019.
on my page the home address is new and correct but the mailing address is old from back when i applied for PR. Which address did they send the package to? Should I call cic on Monday to change my address?
It doesn't allow me to update my mailing address only, i have to update home address and mailing address but my home address is correct...
I had the exact same issue when I got my AOR last week. I changed the address on ecas and the address got updated after 2 days. When you click on change address, you can re-write the same home address and then select the checkbox -“My mailing address is same as home address.” After 2 days or so you should just see 1 address on ecas and that will be your home address. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the update. You would receive AOR soon. Good luck.

Anymore suggestions on the second point as I asked. I have one vote for now.
