Hi guys, I am new to this forum. Thanks everyone for their timelies. I would like to share my timelines as well.

I have applied for my wife. I am in Canada and my wife is in India. My timelines are as bellow:

Category: FAM
App. Filed: 23-Nov-2011
AOR Received: 14-Jan-2012
Med's Done: 12-Nov-2011

I am still waiting for my approval as sponser. I have got the AOR through email.

Currently my E-Case shows as bellow:

"We received your application to sponsor [NAME] on November 23, 2011.
We sent you a letter on January 24, 2012 about the decision on your application. Please consider delays in mail delivery before contacting us."

But I am still wating for my letter to arrive in the regular mail. I will keep you posted.

Question to 'mark_in_canada' and 'StateOfConfusion':
You have got your approvals right? What is your E-Case status? Is it same as mine or any different?

Good luck to everyone.

Hello san360. yes I have my approval but my CAS only show my name, no other info yet. It seems there is no standard.

Hopefully we will see some passport request next week, as the October spreadsheet shows it usually takes 2-4 weeks after approval ;) ;) ;)

Our E-cas hasn't been updated from the original "file has been received". I anticipate it updating with something like yours some time next week. But yes, my husband got the actual sponsor approval letter yesterday, he lives in Edmonton so it took a week to arrive to the day.

If only! I know that won't happen for me, Buffalo is a VO with a monster work load, but I truly hope some of your start hearing about PPR, that would be absolutely wonderful.

Thank you mark_in_canada and StateOfConfusion.

mark_in_canada, the passport request you mean request for passport from your spouse in home country?

It appears that CIC does not have any particular standard. That confuses many people. For example some people get both AOR and approval through emails and some people get AOR in email and approval in regular mail. And there is no uniformity in regards to the E-Cas message as well.

Good luck for the rest of you who are still waiting for the approvals.

yes san360, that is what I mean, that my spouse will get PP request.

TAX time is comming. Some of the implications of doing your taxes may change now. I found a good document that helped me
to understand some of the difference between resident and non-resident for tax purposes. This document is fairly technical.
I hope some might find it usefull. The link is below...

Another tip I can pass along is to let know the CRA about your marriage as soon as possible. I did mine on the CRA website after setting up an
account there. Even though your wife may live in another country, they wish to know his/her world wide income. As this may affect any benifits
you currently recieve, such as CCTB or GST rebate. If they find out later, they will ask for the money to refunded...

Here is the link I used to set up my account..

All you guys need to do, is send a letter to revenue Canada from now, saying something like "this is to inform revenue Canada that my spouse xxxxx is a non resident and has a world income of XXX." I always also say my husband has never entered Canada as yet. I include my name, date of birth, s.i.n # and sign and date it, I fax a copy and mail a copy. I will be doing this this coming week and may do it again in may....better safe then sorry..

good idea Mrslwsn, may I ask how will you prepare your taxes this year? Do you use turbo tax, or hire someone? I tried to use the online
version of Turbo tax but ran into some issues. I applied as married of course but then when it came time to input her info, it was asking
for her SIN ,# and Province of residence?? Even the Tubo tax people could not give me an answer. It would seem the CD version ask if
you spouse is a non-resident, then should bypass this info. I have not tried it , to confirm. If any one has, please let me know.

Yep, I use turbo tax, it very simple...I apply as married, i put my husband sin as 000-000-000. I even put how much his world income is in there as well, but you have to send the letters too. Once rev can recieves the info, it gets sorted. I had no issue last year. I got my refund in 7 days, and because I sent in my letters, all my benefits, were on time come July.
