Notarization or Commissioner of Oaths?

Hello everyone. I searched the website for answers, i feel more comfortable now, but still would like to verify a few things.

I am sponsoring my wife from Ukraine.
I am a Canadian citizen, born in Ukraine.

Q #1. Translations of our text messages (we talk in Russian), do they have to be Notarized or can they be translated by an official translator and signed by a Commissioner of Oaths?
(The reason why I am asking this is that, the person who is going to do my translations is a Certified translator and a Commissioner of Oaths but not a Notary)

Q #2. My documents(passport, citizenship, citizenship certificate, record of landing), do they need to be certified(notarized) copies?
(I know I am kind of beating the dead horse here. I have seen answers to this. From what I understand I just need Copies, unless the documents are not in English or French.)

Q #3. Do i have to sign Photocopies of my documents ex.(citizenship copy, citizenship certificate copy etc...).

When we saw a lawyer before beginning the process, they told us just a certified translator would be enough. That said, we are pretty far along in the process, and we have not been asked to produce any communication logs. Sure they would help, but I am not certain they are totally necessary. We didn't bother translating them (she speaks fluent english, so they are in english, but the lawyer did state that they have to be "translated" into "topic" and "date/time". They really are not looking too deeply at the messages sent. In our case, we do have them, but we likely won't need them.

If you look on the checklist, you will see what has to be notarized. If it doesn't state notarized, then just photocopy is fine. If you have something that has to be translated, use a certified translator.

Thank you profiler! I was inclined towards your answer, but still wanted to verify. I am going to translate and certify our chat history, about 10 pages of selected material from various spots on our timeline. My wife is fluent in English as well, but due to comfort reasons we do chat in Russian.

For the proof of employment, do I need to provide pay stubs? Or is a latter from employer stating my position, working hours and salary, along with 12 month of net income preceding my application enough for the proof?

When we filed, I was about to transition from one job to another. I provided paystubs and the executed offer letter stating my start date, and earnings. You will also need an NoA or Option C for the year previous. I had to supply these later, and they seemed to be fine with that. As a sponsorship application, there is no low income cutoff threshold. If you had dependants who had dependants, then they would look at your income. They really only want to make sure that you are able to support yourself and your wife without needing social assistance.

Our translator told us we don't have to get his work to notary as his translation company is a certified one and its as good as notary. We didn't take his word for it, so we got all the Non English documents translated by him and then took them to Notary. Not as easy and cheap task for we had lots and lots of documents like receipts, house contracts police reports etc. The check list was clear, all non English documents should be translated and Notarised, so we took that path. Our application came out fine. In your case though If he is really a commissioner of oaths then that should be Ok for they do the same job as a Notary. Just make sure what he telling you is acculate

for the proof of employment we included contracts and pay stubs. A letter from the employer should be good enough. In our case we tried to provide as much as we could, i mean its better than providing less Right

There is no need to have the chat history certified. Just translate them yourselves and include regular copies.
