Hello. I am of mixed parentage and when I was born I had citizenship from my birth country (X - also my father's country) and my mother's country (Y). However, country X does not allow dual citizenship while country Y does. My parents were told that I was allowed to maintain citizenship for both countries until I was 21 or until I continued to exercise my citizenship for country Y. Because I have lived in country Y as a citizen since I was 16, I have just assumed that I am no longer a citizen of country X. When I filled in my PR application I did not put country X down under "countries you are a citizen of" because I did not think I was a citizen. Now fast forward to the present time and I am filling in the citizenship application form. Q 13 asks me to list my immigration status in all the countries I have lived in. I put down country Y and when filling in details for country X, I was not sure whether to put down when I was 16 (when I left to live in country Y as a citizen) or 21. During the process of investigating this on the internet, I found out that the process of termination of citizenship for country X is by me renouncing the citizenship or the government may revoke my citizenship.
So now I am really anxious and confused. Am I still a citizen of X? I just assumed it was something that you lost or was no longer valid. So I don't know what date to put under "valid". If I put current, then that is different to what I put in my PR application. So then I am worried about misrepresentation even though it was unintentional.
I was going to put down the date of my 21st birthday under the valid section and then write a note of explanation. But in the note do I say that I don't know if I am still a citizen (and hence flag the possibility of me still being a citizen and therefore misrepresenting myself) or do I just say that my parents were told that my citizenship would not be valid once I turned 21 and leave it at that? Or do I just put country X down with a valid date of my 21st birthday and then not put in any kind of note.
