This is a followup to my other post from the weekend, but a slightly different question. To summarize the other situation, my mother in law has a multiple entry visa (not a super visa) and has been her since mid August 2017. Six months expires mid February 2018 and we wanted to extend her for another six months. After filing the extension application, we realized she had a personal reason to go back home in mid March. Around the same time we realized this, CIC approved the application contingent on her having a medical exam. We have no reason to believe the medical exam would find a problem. However, given that she is now only wanting to stay a few weeks past her original six months, we don’t think it is worth spending $400-$500 on a medical exam just for her to spend a couple extra weeks here. I know its good for 12 months, but realistically it will probably be a little more than 12 months before she comes back anyways. So we were going to have her go home within the original 6 month period.
After talking with CIC today (speaking in general terms as we didn't send in the authorization form), the agent I spoke with told me that even though she will be leaving the country within 6 months of her arrival, we still need to do a medical. The issue he stated is that the extension application has been approved (contingent on medical) and thus can’t be withdrawn. So he believes there could potentially be an issue the next time that she tries to come back to Canada since it would show the medical request not being fulfilled. However, if we had not filed a request to stay past the initial 6 months she wouldn’t have been required to have a medical anyways. I see the argument, and was thinking this myself. But we were talking in general and he did not have open access to her application. But I am hoping someone else has experience with not following through on a medical request.
Her original 6 months expires Feb 10, and I called today to arrange a medical but they note it takes a couple weeks to complete. I’d really prefer to not have to pay last minute prices for a flight, so I am trying to figure out what exactly is the easiest option without spending extra money unnecessarily.
Thanks for an advice!
