Non-Renewed passports

Folks,

I have a question here please...

Would a non-renewed passports be a reason for an RQ or delay in citizenship process?

Our passports (family and I) were expired in April ad May 2015, these are the passports being used for immigration and entry to Canada, due to affordability and the no plans for near future travel out from Canada, I would not renew these passports, however, I was scared by some people that a No current valid passport at the time of citizenship application could be a robust reason for delaying the process of citizenship as the officers would think that we have different passports being in use for travel, I appreciate your expert inputs and advice.

it wouldnt be a reason for a RQ, i had expired passport too and i applied with no issue.

Thanks a lot ch33rez, that's optimistic.
Although other case I know had an RQ, there might be a different reason for the RQ or different officer. Would you think it differs from officer to another?

as long as you explain it in a letter, its fine, but for Visa officer to look at near future projection or immediate past he/she will have to take past travel history into consideration. Since they expired recently and havent been renewed does not mean you wont be able to renew in future and travel on them or you havent travelled during the time they expired and you applied for citizenship after that.

One thing in your favor is that now a days most embassies will mark the expired passports as Cancelled.
the issue of RQ or no RQ depends heavily on what is the gut feeling of the visa officer. (Yes its funny sounding but it is what it is).

if you tell them that you were not interested in getting passport renewed because it seemed like a waste of money to you it makes sense to anybody listening to that argument.

Most of my family members passports are expired. Finished my test Aug 31 and waiting for DM. My wife's passport has expired she got a DM within a few days of tests but I am still waiting for a DM.

By the time of the test, they may have been expired for two or more years.

The length of expiry is irrelevant. My kids' passports had expired over 6 months.

My Wife's passport had expired over 12 months before her application, as had her PR card, and she had no problems at all. My passport was still valid as I had to travel.

Nobody can say what another person they have never met's gut feeling will be. If you are that worried about it, renew your passports.

Even if you renew your passports it wont stop them from giving you RQ if they feel like it. They usually freak out when they see passports with stamps and visas in different languages on passports. So we never know what is waiting for us during the process of citizenship application.

You might consider getting travel histories for you all from CBSA as a proof that you did not travel outside the Canada.
